Suspense…

Heart pounding hard against our chest, we sat down, hoping that we don’t die before our turn comes. Time has now come for the leader of our team to go and participate in the drawing of lots… to know who will be first and all. Knowing our luck, we were sure to get the last place, that is… having to listen to all the 4 teams before us… Man. that would be hell.

Surprise  surprise… we are 2nd and the team before us is from our school as well ^.^ Nice… But hey… didn’t I just say we had some bad luck. The members of the jury decided to ask questions, something they weren’t used to do. Still… we are 2nd, maybe we could have some time to prepare ourselves…

Our turn at last. Legs trembling, we all climbed unto the stage. The hall wasn’t so big, at least, not as big as the one we used to practice in. It should went well, but hey, I’ve forgotten what I’m supposed to say. I’m thinking of the others’ speech and mixing everything up.

Calm down. A deep breath. I listened as my team members were talking and it’s my turn at last. I was thinking, what if I make a mistake, what if I do this or that :| *sigh* I didn’t look at my prompt card at all, so it went out quite well :P I think nobody realised I said cabon dioxide instead of carbon monoxide :D Shhhh… you are not supposed to tell anyone :D

Well… question time at last. It was quite okay, if you don’t count the fact that we all wanted to kill the chairperson :P

We all  went to our places without a single word. *sigh* It was over at last… We listened to the others and we still wanted to kill the members of the jury. I didn’t know there was a department for environment in the Ministry of Environment :D

Well… I only want to say… THE PRESENTATION IS OVER!!!

Shimokawa Mikuni – Alone

kawaita kaze ga fuku
machi wa kogoete-iru
ikutsu no kisetsu ga sotto oto mo naku
sugisatta no darou

A dry breeze is blowing
The city is getting cold
I wonder how many seasons have passed
without even a sound?

yukikau hito wa mina
omoi nimotsu seotte
tooku ni yureru kagerou no naka ni
ashita wo mitsukeru

All of the people coming and going
bear heavy burdens,
searching for tomorrow
within the heat haze wavering in the distance.

kono te wo koboreochiru
suna no you na kanjou
ano toki mune ni sasatta
kotoba ga fui ni uzuku kedo

Feelings like sand
falling through my hands…
Back then, the words that pierced my heart
suddenly started to throb with pain, but…

hatenai yoru wo kazoe nagara
jibun no kakera sagashite-ita
ushinau hodo ni kono omoi ga
tashika ni natte’ku
ima nara kitto aruite yukeru doko made mo

I’ve searched for pieces of myself,
counting the endless nights all the while.
These feelings are becoming so certain
I almost lose myself.
Right now, without fail, I will walk forward, however far.

doushite kono sora wa
konna ni hiroi no darou
sakende mite mo koe ni naranakute
namida ga afureta

I wonder, why is the sky
so vast?
Even though I tried to yell, my voice didn’t come
and the tears poured out.

jiyuu ni kaze kitte
tori-tachi wa doko e yuku no?
sugoshita jikan no you ni
onaji basho ni modorenai

I wonder where the birds are flying off to,
as they freely slice through the wind?
One can’t return to the same place
as it once was in days gone by.

kono mama yume wo akiramete mo
takanaru kodou osae kirenai
itsuka wa kitto chikadzukitai
ano kumo no takasa [1]
mou ichido kokoro ni tsubasa hiroge tabidatou

Even if I give up my dream like this,
I won’t suppress my soaring heartbeat.
Someday, I want to reach
as high as the clouds.
I’ll spread wide the wings in my heart and journey once again

kanarazu tadoritsukeru hazu

I will reach it, without fail.

hatenai yoru wo kazoe nagara
jibun no kakera sagashite-ita
ushinau hodo ni kono omoi ga
tashika ni natte’ku
ima nara kitto aruite yukeru doko made mo

I’ve searched for pieces of myself,
counting the endless nights all the while.
These feelings are becoming so certain
I almost lose myself.
Right now, without fail, I will walk forward, however far.

P.S: Well, I’m too tired today to make any critical appreciation of the song, as I’m used to.Thought to share with you this song that’s been playing in my mind… Just that the words and feelings of this song fit perfectly my state of mind right now… The feeling of trying to find myself, and become stronger… Just hope you’d see what I mean in those words…

Theme of the Week: Seasons…

Seasons… Yes… That’s the seem for this week. I was thinking of maybe writing it on the last day(as always) but hey, I have nothing to write today… So, I thought why no go with it… At first, I was thinking of maybe writing on the different seasons or the probable end of seasons, environment things, well… something about seasons… But I don’t think I’d be in the mood to make my mind work right now to talk about those things. Maybe afterwards…

But there are so many things related to seasons… Our life is… that’s for sure… Seasons, I’d say, are part of our life. How Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter, in my case, only Summer and Winter bring out the best and the worse from our lives can be really surprising. And sometimes, even parts of our lives can have its own seasons… There are tears we shed, smiles that come afterwards, a sorrowful look and maybe some happiness. All of these make our life as the various seasons watch over us.

Studying

Studies might bring a  brighter future, actually my mother told me that if i study, i will get a good job.. well, am still studying..

It’s something dat is troubling the mind of many youngsters round the planet i guess.. the search for a better future.. and education might be the key.. and it will all depend on your abilities; science, engineering, mathematics, litterature etc.. but a problem remains.. the choice of the course, and the choice of the university.

A major factor which will determine that , i guess is financial capacity.. study yes, but it costs.. and it costs a LOT ! before starting my studies i had quite a lot of dreams.. but due to financial constraints, i had to back off..

Countries like Malaysia and India are offering good degrees at a quite reasonable price.. And countries like Romania, Bulgaria and Russia are offering good opportunities for aspiring doctors.. ( i have in mind here our dear friend Viru5) however, for traditional subjects like Law and Economics, many people  think of UK , however the best law school is found in hong kong.. lol

Many mauritians want to leave the country, most youngsters are suffocated with the tiresome political system we have here.. the cruel eye of the society eying each and every single step one wants to make..

Shoo! Summer…

Sooo… Who wanted heat? Eh? I would exchange places with you anytime, given the state I am in right now. Heat is good, too much heat isn’t. Too much heat causes too much water vapour… Too much rain!!! Am I using ‘too much’ too much? *sigh* i might have got too much water in my brains.

I woke up at the sound of the wind. Quite a lovely waking process, you’d say… Sure… If those weren’t real STRONG winds sounding like ghosts! Not that i’m not used to. Where i live, the wind tends to carry every little sound there is…. Ouhhh, Vroummmm, Krangggg!

Still fine… I chose a thick cotton blouse, so that it wouldn’t get transparent when i walk, and my usual jeans, not to forget my sports shoes which are supposed to be permeable… Realised much after that they are NOT! So right now, i have like a lot of water in my shoes and my socks are completely soaked. Not to mention that the cold is creeping onto me… Keep reading →

Narcissism

“The narcissist inflicts pain and abuse on others. He devalues sources of supply, callously and off-handedly abandons them, and discards people, places, partnerships, and friendships unhesitatingly. Sudden shifts between sadism and altruism, abuse and ‘love’, ignoring and caring, abandoning and clinging, viciousness and remorse, the harsh and the tender - are, perhaps, the most difficult to comprehend and to accept. These swings produce in people around the narcissist emotional insecurity, an eroded sense of self worth, fear, stress, and anxiety (’walking on eggshells’). Gradually, emotional paralysis ensues and they come to occupy the same emotional wasteland inhabited by the narcissist, his prisoners and hostages in more ways than one - and even when he is long out of their life.”

Article: Other People’s Pain by Dr. Sam Varkin

Something I thought might interest you… It’s from a Narcissism Book of Quotes by Sam Varkin and you won’t believe how it pains to read those testimonials. Real people like that do exist on Earth and they have no idea what disasters they bring around themselves. The text quoted below might be an example for that….

“I stood there thinking: ‘He can’t mean it.’ I had the shudders, my skin was crawling. This Narcissist-from-hell exuded pure evil. Over the next 5 years he kicked his father out of the house, cut off his pension and slandered him. He cheated his first wife and his kids of money he should have paid, manipulated his business(s), lied to his separate little groups, split away from former friends and family, got ‘religion’, verbally abused his kids, turned other people into his little evil-doer proxies, hired and fired people on a regular basis. He’d cheat himself to satisfy his own greed if he could. About every three months I’d hear about some treachery he was inflicting on someone, somewhere.”

Maiden of Mist

She wanders from tombstone to tombstone
Shedding a tear or two at each stop
Sometimes tracing the engraved stone
Feeling the memories left behind by the departed souls

Dressed in black, veiled from head to toe
Eyes clouded in a Night-shade musslin
No Woe nor Pain they now display
A grey as morose as the deepest Depression

She hovers above the alleys of Sad bouquets
No love nor Adoration she feels for the blossoms
Lively colours of the buds a painful contrast to her mourning
A paradox bereft of any poetic magic or enchantment

A Ghost some think she incarnates
Foerever haunting this desolate cemetery
But an earthly-bound spirit she never was
Aye, Flesh and Blood she is made of

“A mourner, crying the souls of her beloved ones
Lost to her among the fires of the Atrocious Strife
Each day her world witnesses no light of Hope
Tears and Sorrow, the Fate of this Maiden of Mist.”

Did you know…

Did you know…

Why mint provides a cold sensation?

Well well… Have you ever wondered about that? I didn’t either, until today when I fell on an article in Science & Vie. I think that my subscription ends this month… but I haven’t received the January 2008 one either. Hmmm… Should talk to Mom about that :D

Anyway, I’ll try to make it as simple as possible :-)

According to the article, it’s because of menthol, an organic compound which the 7800 varieties of mint contain. (My my, there are 7800 varieties :| ) Consisting of 10 carbon atoms, 20 hydrogen one and 1 oxygen, this hydrocarbon of the same chemical family as camphor, makes the undisputed success of candy mint and refreshing balms, tooth pastes and other perfumes. Extracted from Japanese mint oil from the beginning of the 20th century, menthol is today obtained synthetically… because of the great demand… 10 000 tons per year…
